Upgrading from 2.2.0 to 2.3.0

I'm confused about the instructions for upgrading. The article in the Support Articles section says to just install the update. However, the file I downloaded says "NOT AUTOMATIC" - so what does this mean exactly?! Do I just install the update file? Or do I need to do something further?

but this is not to upgrade to 2.3...
no, in that case you need to unzip the file and upload the files using FTP.

but, in our LATEST upgrade, it is automatic! you can just upload the file through the joomla installer. what version are you currently using?

Would that be the one called:

    upgrade_2.2.1_to_2.3.0_1.6

    I wasn't sure if I could use that one since I'm at 2.2.0 and not 2.2.1 - ?

I too have version 2.2.0 and am seeking to upgrade to version 2.3.0 in preparation to upgrade my Joomla! 1.5.26 to 2.5. However, when I try to update to the latest version of Music Collection (upgrade_2.2.1_to_2.3.0_1.6) using the Joomla! installer, I get the following error: "Error! Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package." I get the same error for the system plugin that I read somewhere is also necessary to upload. Finally, I'm assuming that the latest version of Music Collection is compatible with both Joomla! 1.5 and 2.5.

    hello

this file is to upgrade Music Collection in Joomla 2.5 (NOT from 1.5 to 2.5)
if you are migrating to 1.5 to 2.5, what you actually need to do is to install a fresh copy on the 2.5 site.

if you have music collection on the 1.5 site, you can just install the 2.5 version on top of it on the 2.5 installation (but not on the 1.5 installation) do you know what I mean?

Thank you for the follow up. Would it be best practice for the component to be uninstalled after the migration or before? Will the component work after the migration if left in place so that the upgrade can be done at my convenience?
    Thanks again.

well, maybe it would be a good idea to uninstall it first. you WON'T loose any data (albums or artists or songs...), but you will have to re-build de menu items.

the easiest way is to export the DB tables, because the structure is the same.
the tables are those whose name beggins with jos_muscol_

and then also copy the /songs and the /images/albums folders...

I already installed music solutions on my 2.5 installation..

So I go to my 1.5 mysql and export tables.. and then go to my 2.5 install and import tables?

Are the prefixes the same for 1.5 and 2.5 joomla??

PS thanks for the fast response..
