Question before Purchase

Great component from what I've seen so far. I am planning to use this component to manage a music catalog for various song writers.

I have looked through the features page a few times and have not been able to figure out if I would be able to add new searchable fields to songs.

I would love to have a Writer's field to add the name of the song writer - is this there an option to add fields?

THERE IS ALREADY a "sognwriters" field, but in my demo I haven't added any yet  that's why you don't see any.

this is a textarea field and it's not searcheable directly, but you can make it searcheable with small code modifications (you can count on my help, of course) :)

OK , great - will it take multiple writers? I think this will work for the project - Good Job with the quick response.

yes, it can take multiple songwriters. as I said, the field is a free TEXTAREA field:you dont choose the writers from a dropdown, you just type the names of the writers in each song. so the field songwritters can be filled up with...

    John Lennon
    Paul McCartney
    George Harrison
    Ringo Starr

    for instance :)

Nice, and I can I add new textarea fields if needed, or is it limited to predefined fields?

well, there are no extra fields out of the box.

however, since Music Collection is fully Joomla 1.5 native programmed, add new fields (ad many as you want) is a very simple 3-step operation, involving adding some thing on files. the steps would be...

1 - add the new field on the database
2 - add the new field on the backend form
3 - tell the component that there's a new field

this is done in 1minut time :) and I can tell you exactly how to do it.

the GREAT advantatge that provides Joomla 1.5 structure is precisely this: adding new fields is very, very easy. you don't even need to know PHP or programmation at all

    :)

BTW, what extra fields would you like to add?

Sounds good! I think this will work real good for me.

Re: extra field - I would like to add an alternate song title field.

    Excellent if this is possible!
Can you tell me how to ad extra fields? I think more people would like to know so they can adjust MC to their wishes :)

    sure.

this time, I'm gonna write an article instead of answering here at the forum, since, as you say, this can be interesting to many people.

I'll publish it on "Support" area :)

just give me a couple hours... ;)

I'll let you know when it's done

Ok, I just took another look at the catalog that I'll be working with . :( It has over 20,000 entries . Now I am thinking about the data entry and that sucks. Is there a mass import via csv or something already? If not that may be a interesting feature. Honestly , I can't see myself entering each song manually.

Is there anything I can do to avoid this? Even if it costs me a little cash.

    uf..
    there's no massive import functionality.

How do you have the 20,000 entries classified? I mean... have you the option of exporting it to (as you said) a CSV file or XML or similar? what program do you have your music in? iTunes?
