First of all I'd like to point that despite all criticism below I do very much appreciate all the work done. Seriously, huge amount of job and I thank developer for that.
Second, I want to be honest: I didn't buy you component, I borrowed it from the fiend of mine to test it. But since I don't ask for any support, I hope developer will read this post.
Third... well, there's no third, so let's get to the core :-)
I have version 1.02 distribution package and 1.5 upgrade. Installed upgraded, ran thru parameters, set the test album and went to frontend. We'll leave multiple template issues and overall ugliness since all these can be easily corrected and painted by user itself. My first major disappointment was music players - I checked all of'em, none worked. Every time I enabled player, I got white screen on both album and song views. I did lot of hoodoo, read ALL forum pages, but didn't find any workaround. All paths were set fine, permissions triplechecked, songs were pretty much downloadable, but not playable.
I've spent around 2 hours fighting with this issue and was ready to give up, but suddenly decided to downgrade to 1.0.2. Guess what? It worked! All players except JPW played all songs. I messed a bit with Keith Player and finished my testing. According to multiple complaints, there's definitely something devilish in new version. Sorry to say that.
However this is definitely the best Joomls component for music collection. It has great potential and should be developed further. To help with that a little I'd like to list most frustrating moments I found.
1. MC doesn't read MP3 tags.
Seriously, this is ridiculous. Type "php read mp3 tags" and you'll get 25 MILLION pages! There are plenty already cooked codes and libraries like getID3() for example. Without this feature it's extremely annoying to organize big music collections from the scratch. I have around 300 albums - to add all of them manually and to set up song names, song/album time etc will take eternity.
2. There are very few options for component of such scale.
For example, you can show/hide album details in album view, but you can't select which details to show. So if you filled like 2-3 fields, you'll get full set of 10+ cells, most of them will be empty. You can't set album cover size (not thumbnail) from backend, can't upload multiple files or archives, no way to hide a multi-player and so on.
3. Default template is a bit ugly.
I know, it can be painted in any way by messing with CSS, but I think the default one shouldn't be from 90s as well.
This is what I got after 3 hours of trying to make MC at least work properly on my site. With some coding I can make it look nice, display what I want and where I want, but any further upgrade will drop all changes if they weren't CSS-related.
I would probably buy this component if it was more... finished. Still it is the best one available. Thank you again for all your efforts, and I really hope we'll see new improved version in the closest future.

0If I were the Developer, I would feel offended by this post....... What is your goal for doing this ?....... Do you have any vested interest in this Program? ....... Besides using a Pirated copy ( there is no other way to say it ), You have not even purchased this program , but yet, you are going to criticize it. !!!!!
Who died and made you a critic ????
I have an idea, give back your "so called" copy back to your "so Called Friend " and just forget about it, because I for one, am not interested in your opinions !!!!
Administrator....If you wish to delete my post, please do, sh*t like this just pis***** me off.... -

0As you could guess, I am not going to buy this component and use it in anyway. Looks kinda raw for me. I do pay for software, but never do it "in advance" - always try demo or find a "free" copy of it. If I like it, I pay for it, if I don't - no way. Sorry for not being a Rockefeller.
And if you think you have the right to express you opinion about any thing only when you buy it - think again. I said right in the beginning, that I don't request any support and just wanna write down my impressions and give a couple advices/suggestions. So if you'd feel offended by this post, your developer career would end very, very soon. Because as a developer you MUST learn to listen to feedback even if it's harsh.
At last, I didn't came and said "This program is crap, don't buy it!", I gave an explanation to my point of view. -

0hello,
first of all, I haven't read your post. Too long for a non-paying user.
so I just read the "1. 2. 3." titles, so I'm gonna answer these titles without reading the rest.
1) no, it does not. we are working on it for a future version
2) mmm... well, that's not my opinion, but maybe there soulc be more options
3) default template is simple, so everyone can adapt it to its need. furthermore, we have additional templates for PAYING USERS that you, of course, cannot download since you're not registered on our system.
just one last comment: this component can be improved in infinite ways. in fact, we are working on it (on finite new features). but, in anyway, I dont think you should come up with suggestions/comments if you didn't buy it. why? because the way to make this component GROW and become better is to SUPPORT developers. you support developers buying the soft. if we don't sell, we won't be able to pay the working ours and we will have less and less time to keep this project alive.
just a though

0oh, and just another though:
besides the hugh problem with have with piracy, we decided to keep this software OPEN SOURCE (careful! open source does not mean free, means open source!). we could have encrypted the soft and require a KEY to make it work so no free copies could be used around the net, but WE DIDN'T, because we think open source is better for everyone: for customers to modify the soft the way they need, for us to help them solve bugs, etc
there's no a single line of code encrypted, everyone can play with it as much as they want
maybe this does not mean anything to you... but it does to us! if we had encrypted our soft, you wont be able to test this unliscensed copy of yours! -

0Who said, I don't want to buy it? I surely do. I just don't think it's time for me to do that, due to lack of features. Yes, it can be improved and I am sure it will be, and when it'll I am gonna buy it.
I really doubt you gonna buy a car, which acts strange, requires serious tuning and does not fit your driving style. You gonna buy another car or, in some cases, will wait for the particular one to be improved. This is what I'm gonna do - watch your project and decide whether to buy it or not in the future.
In my case, if I'd buy MC right now, would be a waste of money. Hope you got my point. -

0I get your point. I just hope you won't be using the copy you have on your site unless you pay for it.
