well.. have you created any album? (in the backend, for instance)
you can add songs into it, and upload files for each song..

what steps are you following?

I have added songs to the /songs folder but how do you get the songs on the website to play? I have already deactivated the download option.

but.. are you adding the files to the folder directly? without linking them to any actual song?
if you add the songs into the folder as you say, then you have to "import" them to the system using the Scan feature.
otherwise (the classical way) is to create an album and upload the songs using the upload file field.. do you know what I mean?

myke, it's really easy to use, probably you're just missing something.
really.. just go to the joomla backend, go to music collection, click New album.

in that album, on the SONGS tab, just click "add new song" and there will be a "file upload" field. click on that, select your song... and save... that's all!
