Hi!

I just bought the Standard Packages for Joomla 1.6.

I want to use the JW player. I found installation instructions only for 1.5
So I just had to figure it out by myself.

I installed and published these:
JW Player MODULE for Music Collection
Muscol - JW Player

Do I need to install something more?

What do i do next?? Where is the tutorial for this great extension? I just get white black page for the pages I have defined the JW Player MODULE for Music Collection. I have no idea how to do playlists, I guess this is pretty simple but I have no idea what to try next..

Please can you help me back to track?

Yours,
Pekka Varis

    hello!

you have to install the PLUGIN, not the module (I mean, not "only" the module)

the plugin is a file named plg_jwplayer_2.2.0_1.6.zip

this is said on the installation instructions! :)

I installed in the first place those 2 things, module and the plugin. I just used in my first post the names that joomla show in administration backend.

Here are the names of the files I have installed at the very start of my journey to use this extension:

    mod_muscol_jwplayer_2.2.0_1.6.zip
    plg_jwplayer_2.2.0_1.6.zip

    So what now?

And what instructions are you talking about??
There is instruction only for joomla 1.5.

So should I just follow them and fear / feel frustration that any moment it can go wrong? What kind of commercial extension this is??

Maybe you guys at joomlamusicsolutions think of peole who have used this since joomla 1.0 and you are too busy to write installation / usage tutorials to joomla 1.6?? Are you too famous now?

Germi, if you are just a customer & user of this product, thank you for you answer. If you are a part of commercial supoport team, could you please help me out with this most simple thing?

    respect,

Ok thank you. The customers website is:
    http://www.luomat.info/

as I told you I have already installed those 2 things.

So now I read the tutorials 1.5.

First thing it says is, download zip and find
    "com_muscol_XXX.zip" or "com_muscol_XXX_pro.zip"

Well there is no zip anymore so I choose to download the "missing" piece: com_muscol_2.2.0_1.6.zip

Did I hit the right one? god knows..

I installed it, and after installation it greated all the folders - great!

    I copied the "cd.png" fie.

So i pressed the Music Collection "parameters" buttonbut I did not knew anything what these should be, so I did not changed anything. Right I did?

THen, in the page after succesfull installtion there was a line that said: PHP variable "short_open_tag" must be set to "On" (on php.ini file) to allow MC to work properly.

..But in the installation instructions page http://www.joomlamusicsolutions.com/en/support/installation.html
there is not that line. Well, I did not found that file from the first reasonable folder: components/com_muscol so I did not looked it further. Maybe this was my first giant mistake??

Anyway I braveheartedly continued to set up my playlist :P

Maybe I now have to move some mp3 files to folder so I did with ftp program. Two mp3 files.

Then I peaked what I might see in Componets/Song Manager/Song but it was empty.

So here my intuition stops. I see it is not wise to publish the module, since the mp3 files are not visible to Componet itself.

I hope you have time to guide me forwards, dear Germi.

And yes, I copied the mp3 files to "songs" folder in joomla webpage root, that automatically was created by the installer.

 don't worry. you seem to have done everything right.

it just looks like you don't have added any song yet!!

just create a new album, and on the SONGS tab, add some songs and upload the files.

also, you should add a menu item pointing to Music Collection / Artists (detailed) to enter the component.

this will be your music starter point on the frontend.

if there's something you don't see clear, send me joomla access and I'll set it up for you!

you don't need to copuy the files in there manually (I mean, you canm but you STILL need to create the "songs" on music collection)

that's why I tell you to use the NEW ALBUM fetaure :)

    Hi!

Thank you for your help. I made the things you told to do.
I managed to do right it, cool:)

    http://www.luomat.info/

But how can I make a unique playlist for the frontpage (or some other page too) and use just the JW Player, not the menu item to open my Detailed artist layout? I know I can just unpublish the menu module, but how can I make a playlist, since there is no "new" button in "music collection / Playlist Manager ?

So I just want a simple player, with different mp3 files in each page, like here in joomla 1.5 oldsite:

    http://www.luomat.info/oldsite/muuttuvat-laulut.html

    hello

I'm not sure to understand what you need..

playlists are created on the FRONTEND. new playlists are created like so:

1-you add some songs to "current playlist"
2-you go to the playlists list, and you click on CONSOLIDATE PLAYLIST button
    3-the playlist will be created.
4-you can edit it to change name, description, etc...

    is this useful to you?

Well, my ultimate goal is to have handy and small playlist in left column, and every browsing person should see this, wothout loggin in.

    Is this possible?

I managed to do this far my brave journey into to playlist:

    - I logged in from front end.
    - pressed the "detailed artist view" button and then I pressed the plus sign on twe 2 songs I have uploaded.
    - I went back to homepage (where my JW Player is published) and YAHOO! I saw the 2 songs there.
    - I logged out to see if they are still there for all my customers music´s fan to see, but no :(

So following your tutorial in your latest post, I did the same again from start and then I searched the "playlist list" from frontend.. I did not found any. So then I seached it from back-end. I found a "Playlist Manager" but it was empty and there is no "consolidate" button. And at the same time I can see the playlist in the frontend.

    So I am stuck here...

    mm...
what you ask for is not directly possible. let me explain: playlists are "personal". if you add songs to a playlist, you will see them.

I understand what you want is to have a playlist, previously created by you, to show up by default on the player. is that right?

the consodlidate button is on the FRONTEND (playlists view)

if that's what you want, let me know, I'll tell you a minor tweak on the module's code so you can load a default playlist for everyone to see.

mmm... no, that's something else. there is a tweak you can do to load ONE playlist to the player, but will always be the same...
if you need different playlsits for diffferent articles... well then you would need much more custom coding... it should be done as custom coding work...!

to set ONE default playlist, here is how to do it: http://www.joomlamusicsolutions.com/en/forum/music-collection-extensions/jw-player-2.html#11192

Ok, great. Thank you for this solution for now.

I try to do it now, and then I ask for the customer to give and comment if they want to buy (as coding work) an unigue player for each page.

    Hi!

I managed to do it one time.. But now I have slight problem.

Now I did all the albums again from the scract and uploaded all songs too. Then I logged in to frontpage and added all the songs to playlist.

I can see the playlist in frontpage JW player.

But when I go to playlist Playlist layout view in frontend, I see the playlist I just made. It is named "On-the-go" and there are 12 items. But I see only one icon: "Set playlist as current". There is no "Consolidate" button at all. So I cannot save my playlist..

    What can I do now?

    The playlist looks very good!!

I did it all from start: un-installed all extensions, used jUpgrade to migrate to joomla 1.6.3 and then installed Music Collection.

I logged in from front-end and made a playlist and saved it. Then I tried to change the order of playlist, the "save order" button did not work in firefox or IE.

So I deleted the playlist and created a new. Then I made the tweak to helper.ini file and uloaded that. Well, now the button to add song in playlist has disappeard from the front-end!

I even deleted the tweak line from helper.php that was there to show the playlist to everybody without loggin in. Bot no, still I see no "add" button, that green plus sign. Where has it gone?? Help me G!

At least the difference to problem before re-installation is that I can see the save-icon on the on-the-go playlist in the playlist view, but that does not help since i cannot add any songs there!

So great that you help me :)

I have no idea why it was not published suddenly, since I did the playlist 2 times already with this new installtion. But yeah, it was not published and once I activated the feature, I was able to make my playlist again and then I saved it and used number 2 in the helper.php tweak to call the right playlist.

    Here we are:
    http://www.blad.fi/jupgrade/

Almost there!! Artist must deliver me some imaginary album-image for the unpublished first song ;) Other songs are real cd:s.

You see if you press the open in pop-up, then the playlist xml is missing again. Dear G, do you have a non-loggeg-users-tweak to this feature too?

Hi there Germi! Good news for you!!

I hope people find this conversation very usefull, since it been read quite a many times.

If you want, I can sum up a step by step tutorial based on this topic. It might help people to figure out out how to do this without reading through my mistakes on the way. Do you want me to do that?

Now the customer need´s the unigue player feature on pages. Those pages shall be opened by standard joomla 1.6 menu items: Single Article.

How much this feature would cost to me & my customer?

You can use it in later updates if you want, we do not want to have any custom previledge over your work :)
