germi,

Any news on when the new version of MC will be released that you have been working on this year? Also do you have a list of what new features and bug fixes will be in this release?

Thank you!

hello Bryan, I'm still confident in releasing it late September or early October. I've been pushing the release because I had all the new site's launch and all. the version will be 2.4, not 3.0 (also, the latest version is 2.3.1 which is just about 3 months old)
    the most important new features:
    - recursive scan import (you can import everything with just 1 click)
    - ZIP album upload and download option
    - tag system (joomla 3.1 tag system)

    Good to hear!

May I make a suggestion? Most software products have a section where they release news about when the software has been updated. I find with MC that I never really know when it gets updated unless a whole new version comes out supporting a major new release of joomla. A lot of companies that use forums typically have a section called Announcements for each of their software packages. In this area they create a post or sticky topic when ever any of their software packages get updated. I find this both extremely beneficial to both the customer and the company as it does the following:

    1. Current customers are able to keep updated on when they need to update their products and what new features or bug fixes have been released at a quick glance. This saves the forum moderator a lot of time having to answer questions about features or updates.

    2. Expired subscription customers see quickly that there has been updates with new features and become interested in renewing.

    3. Potential customers see that the product is actively being developed and updated and thus are far more willing to buy into it.

So for an example, when MC 2.4 was released there would be a new topic about this with what changes have been made. 2.4.1 another topic again with what has been done. This not only shows active development but really helps build a lot of excitement around a product.

An example of a company that does an excellent job of this is jaikoz, the mp3 tagging software I use at www.jthink.net . The developer, Paul, is very active and is always optimizing or adding new features to his wonderful software. When ever he releases an update to the public, he creates a topic in his forums. I created a rss feeds for all the software that I actively use and whenever I see one of these updates I am very quick to jump on his site and excitedly see what he has done. I find this a great strategy for any software company to promote their software and help customers build confidence in their product.

Sorry for the long post. This is something I have always wished MC would do as it is such a great product! I would love to be able to more easily keep up on whenever any of your products get updated.

of course you make suggestions! :)

with this new site, joomlathat.com, we post news about the new versions on the "news" section (that did not exist on the old site, if you remember..). for example, this is recent announcment: http://www.joomlathat.com/news/invoice-manager/invoice-manager-1-2-0-released
it informs about the new features, etc.
since we haven't had a new release (besides the one we launched with the site), there's no announcement there yet.

but I see your point, and we are thinking in ways to improve the notification system. we will use the dropdown above of that page (the one with your name, which already has notifications for forum posts) and we are thinkin in e-mail notifications.

your suggestions are as usual most welcomed :) keep'em coming!

Ahh, I didn't even notice the News tab at the very end :)

Might be more prominent if it was the first tab instead of the last tab since you are not showing up the info on your home page.

Do you need any more beta testers. I've been waiting for the newest version for a couple of months now so anything I can do to help.

    Thanks
