Scan subfolders

Would be really nice if MC could automatically scan the song folder and all the sub folders to create all the albums. Instead of having to add each folder by hand.

    4th and final.

Germi, do you recall saying this to me months ago and that it would be - what was it? February?? Here it is almost MAY and still none of this ability. Can you say VAPORWARE?

Recall how I made you aware we have literally HUNDREDS OF GIGABYTES of tunes, and now I will colorfully use the metaphor: there's no way in Hades' Icicle-ization that we will ever manually build our library manually? Straight up Germi - if we can't get you to build this industry-standard feature into JMC that - I again restate we need an immediate refund. I said it then too. No music management system anywhere, on any platform but this app - does not do this?

What kind of "management" is it if it cannot import what users 99.999% of the time already have in abundance - aka lots of tunes? It is absurd to not have this very basic, and very essential feature in any music solution - and this is precisely why all the rest have it!

Yet here we are. $100 US for....what exactly again? Because of the sheer volumes of music that exist overall, and which most folks have now days, it is illogical for you not to be focusing every spare development effort on library management, automation and mass importation & editing features so that updating, removal, and so on of a tune library is as automatic as possible accounting for events such as files being removed via the ftp layer behind the JMC, so when it reindexes or whatever - it see's it's gone or been renamed and it updates itself accordingly - things like that. Also, having mass import and mass edit features (i.e. select a range of songs and allow *common elements* to be editable en mass - i.e. album name, composition year, etc etc) would also be essential - this way if the importing got it wrong, or just skewed album names into date fields or silly stuff like that - we could edit those manually all at once, to correct it more easily in chunks instead of having to edit each track one at a time! Stuff like that.

Use iTunes or Winamp as your "how it should work template" and you'll get somewhere quickly. But from where I stand I see no effort or intent to move in this direction and just a bunch of forum posts that IMPLY that maybe someday when icicles form in hell we'll see this. That isn't good enough - sorry - as much a fan of icicles that I am.

Prove me wrong or give us our money back please as we STILL are not using the product. It is really sad - these mass features are all that are MISSING from JMC to make it a real contender to even locally installed apps.....you should be focused 110% on taking iTunes, Winamp, Windows Media Slayer and so on - out of the equation, and you becoming the defacto standard to web based tunes management.

Haven't even been able to work on the site anyway, but we cannot deploy this until it can import our file system and build a library from it. Without this - it is USELESS to us. So we've still not deployed or used it yet - with so much else going on. :side: When my attention turns back to this - deploying your product should be BY FAR LESS effort and time than Joomla and all the other goodies that go with it - by far. Not the other way around.

Because of Php's inherent timeout and data size limits, you really need to make this product look at a folder that contains other folders - say created by iTunes....imagine....and be able to parse, import and build the library from that. Imagine. My patience is at an end with your promises - please deliver, or deliver us a refund. Either way after this post, and whatever result you come back with - I will go to the JED and rate Joomla Music Solutions and the MC extension accordingly.

I have not yet done this as I've been holding off waiting to see how you would handle, or mishandle this. Tick tock.

    Thanks

    @ancorp,

I understand you're frustration, especially if you were in fact assured that if you purchased, said functionality would be included. However, it is quite clear, here on the MC site, and most reputable joomla extension developers' websites that one should read the 'Pre Buy' or 'limitations' pages/forums before purchasing.

As I said, it's understandable that you are frustrated however, I feel it important to note, this is a $100 extension...

I don't think that anyone would argue that the suggestions you've made would be un-welcome however, comparing Music Collection to Apple's iTunes is no less than ludicrous.

How on earth can you compare them when iTunes has 10's, if not 100's of devs/testers and MC is pretty much developed by 1 or 2?

Regardless of your frustrations, and that given the tone of your post, do you really expect that suddenly, everything you're asking for will come to fruition?

Since you seem to know so much about it, maybe you should extend it yourself - or create your own extension - if it's that easy! Some of that anger you're venting could be put to good use!!!

Many of us on the music collection forum share our ideas & customisations to help each other out because we appreciate the time and quality of the component. That is what open-source is about! After all, there is no better music library for joomla.

    Sincerely,

Gez - 1 of many supporters of Music Collection!
