there's no particular template, any should work. the only thing is, if you use our Joomla 3.0 version, we recommend to go with a Bootstrap template. it's not mandatory, but recommended.
about building the site first or not.. I can't really answer, it depends on what you're building, if Music Collection will be just an add-on or it will be the "center" of your site...
