I downloaded joomla 3.1.1 today and com_muscol_2.3.0_community_pro_3.0.zip and installed them to do some testing.

I noticed that joomla displays:

Message
Installing component was successful.

and that the only notes on the page are:

Music Management System for Joomla!

Unlike previous versions of MC that would then list a bunch of tasks and some instructions, this one had none of that. Not even the part about moving cd.png over to a folder. None of those instructions or actions were displayed on this page.

So I went over to /images and noticed that MC did not create any new image folders. Only had the default banners, headers, and sampledata that joomla put there previously.

Is the installer broken? The reason why I even went back and checked on this is because I could not get any album artwork to show up.

maybe there's a problem with creating folders, we've noticed this in some 3.0 installations.
but, besides of that, if you create the folders manually, there rest work ok?

I tried a new install again with the latest version. Looks like it still is broken in the 3.x line. :( It does work in the other versions of MC.

The page never even displays any info about the folders being created or to move the cd.png file.

Creating all the folders manually to match the structure of the installation guide found at http://www.joomlamusicsolutions.com/en/support/installation.html does fix the issue so that all the images for artist and album show.

Appears to be a bug only in the joomla 3.x line of MC.
