Joomla user and contact

When I set up a contact, I need to specify a joomla user. The joomla user is of course, someone I have set up to create and send invoices. I am not sure I understand why? What is the reason to bind an invoice to a joomla user? is it to simply indicate who is handling that contact? We are a VERY SMALL company, there are only 2 of us that do the bookwork... Could you just explain to me the purpose of this? Are there things that only the binded user can do with that contact? Should I just use one user id to create all? Thank You for helping me understand this! I have all the setup done now and I think I am almost ready to go live - which in 2 days is AMAZING!

yes, you are making sense, because the "pay" page is actually accessible from the email sent, so that's ok, but in case you would want the user to see all their invoices, and access each invoice, online (directly on your website), then he will need to have a joomla account.

now, who creates this joomla user account.. that's up to you: either you create the accounts for them or you let them sign up.. I don't know how your site is going to work ;)

PS: in case it interests you, know that we are preparing a new version (still a few weeks to be released), which includes the option for users to see the invoice online WITHOUT being logged in (with a security code providen)

I really like the idea of not having the users logged in! YAY! I will watch for that update!

    Hello!

The reason to bind an invoice to a joomla user is to actually give him access to the invoice, in the frontend.
The invoices are private. This means that only the recipient of the invoice should be able to see it. Hence, the invoice need to be "protected" and only be accessible by the user you decide, and this is done by binding the invoice to a joomla user. Therefore, the user will be able to see his invoice if and only if he is logged in. Do you know what I mean?

I do understand this part - what I am asking is, the joomla user - the only users that I can bind to are employees, right? OR do I have to allow the customer to be able to set up an account on my site and then bind the invoice to the customer? Since I am still testing, I do not have any users but me and one other person..... SO, I create the invoice, send the invoice. The customer clicks the pay now. He can see the summary and pay from that - I have tested that far... Am I making sense?
