Setting up a cookie expiration that overrides lifetime per user Issue

I know this is a stretch but my customer wants this function. Is there anyway that we can make a XX day limit to user/affiliate association for only certain affiliates. Meaning if a guest clicks the affiliate link doesn't purchase, comes back after XX days that cookie will have expired and a lifetime association won't apply?

    well, this would require custom coding, as this is not how the affiliate "link" system currently works..

    you need some new script that will "clear" previous associations for that user (if he access the site again)

    The client is now also asking this as an alternative:

    I want to have affiliate links that only record the first sale, and then that customer would have to go through that affiliates link again if they ever wanted to be credited for a sale again for the 50%.

    ^ Is that possible at all?
