my personal choice is Joomsef. I know, joomsef is commercial and sh404sef is free. of course, sh404sef is a good component, I have nothing bad to say about it. I used too, but one day I switched to Joomsef because I had some small issue with sh404

anyway, the two of them are very good components, and very similar.

maybe you can start trying 404sef, because its free and if you like it, you keep it.

you can also try joomsef for free, they have a gratis version.

a good think about sh404sef is that you can use it without an .htaccess file

but the plugin for sh404sef is in fact a copy of the plugin for joomsef, so theres no much difference.

honestly, it is pretty much the same. so I can't really answer your question... lol
