Email Subject doesn't show invoice number but instead is blank

Options are set to default. Invoice email should be "invoice {invoice_num]" but instead the email subject is coming out blank. Any idea on how to fix this?

    is the invoice number not blank?

    also, in your question, you wrote "invoice {invoice_num]"
    notice the wrong closing "]" character instead of "}"
