Hello,

I am interested in purchasing your Content Statistics package but I would like to ask some questions first. I have been reviewing your forums and there are a few things that have come up I would like clarification on.

1) The main reason for wanting to purchase this software is so that I can monitor and log the actions of admins on my website. In particular this concerns monitoring the actions of developers from various companies who have required backend access to conduct support. I would like to know to what extent Content Statistics can monitor these individuals. For example, am I able to see what extensions, modules and plugins have been altered and to what extent? Am I able to see alterations in global configuration settings? Am I able to see changes in the ACL? and am I able to see changes made within components?

2) I am using a Joomlart template on my website, and on account of the way these templates have been designed, for many of the pages there is no article on the webpage. A significant number of pages have been constructed using a blank component (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/style-a-design/personal-layout/17363?qh=yto0ontpoja7czo1oijibgfuayi7atoxo3m6njoiymxhbmsnijtpoji7czo2oijibgfua3mio2k6mztzojc6iidibgfuaycio30%3d) and then article categories are displayed using the native joomla module which is then configured to display with the template parameters.

I have noted from posts on the forum that Content Statistics has issues with monitoring pages that do not contain articles. To what extent will I be able to use the Content Statistics software with my Joomlart template setup?

3) Content statistics also states that it integrates with Jomsocial and Kunena (2 main pieces of software on my website). To what extent are these softwares monitored? Does it only indicate when pages are visited or is information provided about posts, private messaging, uploading photos/videos, event creation, liking actions etc.

4) I am looking at investing in some chat software - JBolo (http://techjoomla.com/jbolo-chat-for-joomla.html). Is Content Statistics capable of monitoring this software? If so to what extent.

If you would like to review my website before answering so you can get an idea of some of the stuff I'm on about (in particular the template question) please feel free to visit @ the following URL:

Thank you very much for your assistance in this matter.

    Thank you for the information.

May I inquire as to the cost of the service for creating new plugins?

The price for custom coding services really depends on the specific needs, that is, the specifications on what has to be done, what the plugin must track, if there need to be filter options, etc.. if you are interested in quotes for plugins, please contact us directly at support@ joomlathat.com

    Hello,

correct. it can integrate with any component.. as long as there's a plugin for it.
about "how difficult".. well, it really depends on your skills. if you're a good programmer and are familiar with Joomla programming, then it shouldn't be too difficult to create a new plugin, taking a look at one of our current plugins as an example (same functions). we don't have a documentation for it, but any plugin should work as example.
if you're not too familiar with coding or joomla programming.. then making this by yourself will probably be like hell.

we do provide a (paying) service to create new plugins.

if you want to create yourself and you have any doubt at any point, we can help with that of course.

    Hello Germinal,

Thank you very much for you rapid response and your feedback is excellent!

Your answer has certainly helped to clear my understanding of the software, but I have a couple of follow up questions remaining.

From what I gather from your post is that CS will pretty much integrate with any component so long as a plug can be written for the desired component. This may be a stupid question but how difficult is it to code a plugin for CS to work with a new component? Does Joomlathat! provide any form of support with making new plugins?

    hello,

    1. first of, when you say developers get access... you mean to JOOMLA, right? we are not talking about code, correct? (I mean, CS does not track changes on the actual files, of course..)
    that being said:
you can monitor SOME of the things you mention, not others.
    a) for example, you can see if a user edited/deleted/created a module or plugin, but you cannot see what specific changes they have done. for example you will see "user X edited the module Y", but it won't tell you what specific changes they did
    b) there are not logs to components (like, user A accessed component X). there can be logs on specific actions performed on specific components, in that case, in the user component or the article component, or the extension manager (like.. user installed extension, user deleted extension, user created article, user modified article).
    c) no logs on ACL changes.
    d) no logs on global coniguration (that could be custom coded, but again, it would log the action of "changing configuration" but not the actual speficic changes

    2. that's not really true. CS can track access to pages, if that page is a COMPONENT for which we have a plugin. in other words, if the URL is option=com_content&ETC, this means it's the articles component, actions can be tracked.
CS tracks accesses to COMPONENTS. what you may have read is that somebody didn't get tracking on the HOMEPAGE. that's because the homepage is the only page that does not have an URL, therefore it can' be tracked by this system. that's all...
this "blank component" you mention you use, is ACTUALLY A COMPONENT! therefore its access could be trackable if we had a plugin for it.

a different thing is if you're loading MODULES in that page. the modules do not get tracked individually because modules do not have an URL. again, remember that the trackable "things" are those that have an URL that identifies them.

    3) you can see this in our spefici pages: http://www.joomlathat.com/content-statistics/extensions/statistics-for-jomsocial and http://www.joomlathat.com/content-statistics/extensions/statistics-for-kunena
you will see there a list of what specific things are tracked.
it tracks some of the things you mention, but not others. if you need more specific actions tracked, it can always be customly coded afterwards...

    4) no, we don't have a plugin for it. again, a plugin would be necessary to track its actions.
