View Genres or not in catalogue

0
Hello Germi,
I have a question... How to avoid displaying some kind of genres in catalogue?

I tried a lot of tricks, with no results. At the beginning I tried to create sub-genres it's very useful that music collection have the possibility to create sub-genres, but if I use the mod_album to diplay albums in a page giving the genre ID the module shows me only the albums in the ID, not in the sub-ID's I created.

Multi id's in genres view doesn't works (it returns a SQL error if I insert more genres id's with , [1,2,3,4]), it could be enough to solve this problem. Or better, if music collection by default can select automatically sub-genres if a father genre is selected.

This way I can show in frontend what I want users to see, I can split my catalog in more than one and show or not some genres in the album list.

CAT1 CAT2
_________|________ _______|_______
| | | | | |
GENR1 GENR2 GENR3 GENR4 GENR5 GENR6
|
GENR7

This little scheme is how I would like to setup my catalogue.

I'm sorry for my English, I hope that you understand what I meant it's a little bit difficult to explain.
Thank you anyway,
S

    hello Steve,

oh boy.. it turns out that this is already built in into that module, but there was a small bug that I did not notice until now that made only the first genre ID to be considered!!

I've fixed this and repacked the module, now the ALBUMS module is version 2.4.1

please download it and upgrade. it will now include subgenres in module :)

    Hi Germi,
thank you for all your support, but unfortunately there is something wrong because I just overwritten the module but it looks like it's working like before the update, if I choose Genre ID1 I can see only albums in this category and not in the child sub-categories.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Thank you again,

Yes, I just installed it via Joomla installer but it looks there something that is not working because nothing changed.
I moved 4 categories from 1st level to a 2nd level cat, but if I choose Genre ID1 (the one I need, that have 4 subs) the module shows me ony 4 albums (that are in the 1st level category) still not showing me othe 12 albums in the subs.

    hold on a minute...
if it shows albums from the parent genre it doesn't mean it's not working!
if you select genre ID = 1, it will select albums that have genre ID = 1 or any of its subgenres...!
so, the genre ID = 1 is obviously included too..

how many albums are you setting to display in the module?
I just took a look at the code and it works, I've tested it several times...

    Hi Germi,
I didnt' meant is not working but just that is working as before the update of the module.
I set to display 500 albums, just because I want to be sure that every album is displayed.
Yes, the 4 albums in the main category are displayed, but the others in the subs not.

I also tried to create a new sub genre just to be sure that I didn't made something wrong because at the beginning all my genres were in the root (1st level) and then I moved them as subs, but nothing changed.

If you prefer, I can give you access to the site I'm developing.
    Thanks,
    Steve
