Missing Geolocation info Issue

I reveived an API key from IPInfodb. The only thing I wasn't sure about was the form asked me for my server's ip. It is with Hostpapa and the docs I have mention a shared ip address of 69.172.239.150 so I put that in. I chatted online with Hostpapa support and they also said this was ok ip. It don't think it was asking for my own ip address as the form was already displaying that.

I got a confirmation email from IPInfodb with a key which i pasted into the plugin.

Anyway the activity page is showing some visits but all geolocation info is blank.
Any ideas?

That is strange and thanks for spotting that.

Just shows the dangers of cut and paste.

In future I will do it via notepad.

Any way for your code to report a nonfuuntionig api code? Or if the code always has the same length report an error on string length?

Thanks!

since an API key can be "anything" there's no checking on the string pasted.
Maybe we can add an option to trim blank spaces to avoid this in the future..! it's a good idea

    thanks!

hmm... I don't know. If you inputted the Key correctly it should be recording the geolocation data.
is it possible that the IPinfoDB.com site may be blocking your server's requests, for some reason?

Have you experienced IPInfoDB blocking requests from host providers in the past?

Well even if I log into IPInfoDB the website is totally mute as regards any support, so I cannot ask them if that is the case.

So how can I find out if the server request is being blocked? And even if I found out from my host provider that was the case, how can I get hold of IPInfoDB to stop it? Seems a total dead end even now as IPInfoDB.com is so totally noncommunicative.

In the very few cases you report could you fix it?

I did notice that there are a number of alternative ip geolocation providers. Why are we locked onto just one?

    Thanks

    hello

if you can send me joomla and FTP access, I'll make a couple checks on the code to see if it's the server being blocked, or something else.

    Hi,
I sent you an email on 20/7 with my site login details. Did you receive it? If not, maybe fell into your spam folder.
    Thanks

I still haven't got an answer or response on this yet. I have in the meantime checked with ipinfodb who state that my server is not blocked. On their suggestion I have checked with my hosting supplier (HostPapa) who also have checked this out and they confirm "We don't block outgoing connections to remote servers on default ports so that shouldn't be the problem here." Furthermore they say "I reviewed both webserver and PHP error logs and I don't see anything that would explain this behavior. Unfortunately, we have no way to log all connection attempts to the remote servers, however, maybe you can try and contact plugin vendor to see if there's a way to enable verbose output of connection attempts to try and get an exact error."
So far you plugin simply fails to work. I can also confirm that allow_url_fopen is set to On.
    Thanks please respond!

Well I give up. No more response from you. I have just now uploaded another Joomla extension for ip geolocation and it worked first time. I have spent a considerable number of hours trying to get your app to work, but it just doesn't. And judging by the forum I am not the first. to have this problem.;) ;) ;) ;)

    I would really like my money back as it was a waste of money and more so my time.;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

    thanks!

you're not going to believe me..

the system was perfectly ok. what was wrong was the API key. You had entered with an extra blank space at the end, so it was not correct.

I removed the blank space.. and there you go. it's working.
